Plainfield is a prosperous and bustling Village, located 35 miles southwest of Chicago. The Village is close to several interstates and state highways making it an easily accessible destination. Our historic downtown is a vibrant, pedestrian-focused destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Each year, the downtown is home to a number of special events including Plainfield Fest, classic car nights, movies, and concerts. Plainfield is also home to the Lake Renwick Heron Rookery, numerous historic districts and landmarks, a wonderful park and trail system, and the DuPage River which provides numerous outdoor recreational opportunities.

Plainfield has a rich history, as it is Will County’s oldest community. The Plainfield area was first settled in the 1830s with the construction of sawmill on the DuPage River. In 1940 when U.S. Route 66 crossed the Lincoln Highway in the heart of the Village, Plainfield hosted the intersection of the two longest highways in the world. The community continues to build toward the future, while honoring its' past with the Downtown Historic District being designated on the National Register of Historic Places.
