Hurricane Reggae Band hits the Humiston Riverside Park Bandshell  on June 20th and Pontiac's own The Unemployed Architects will be opening up! Hailing from the exotic isle of Dominica, Cleve “Hurricane” Jean Jacques has been a professional musician since he could remember. Hurricane’s musical career began at the tender age of fourteen, when he was performing as lead guitarist and vocalist for the Island’s leading band. Hurricane continued to develop in strength as a song writer, musical arranger, and entertainer. In 1986, he entered the arena of calypso and for the next fourteen years touched the hearts and lives of people all over the world.
At competition level, he has been crowned Calypso King three times at the national level in his own country as well as three times Road March King. He was also crowned Caribbean King in 1996 and came seventh in the World Monarch Competition. In 2012, Hurricane was inducted into the Dominica Calypso “Kaiso” Hall of Fame.
Over the years, Hurricane has performed in Europe, Central America, South America, Canada, the United States, and almost all of the Caribbean Islands. Hurricane has opened for or performed alongside of Calypso King of the World Mighty Sparrow, Arrow, Ziggy Marley, Shaggy, Luciano, Morgan Heritage, Steel Pulse and more.
Presently, Hurricane resides in Chicago heading The Hurricane Reggae Band, which has won the Chicago Music Award for Best Reggae Entertainer for two years running in 2013 and 2014.
Get ready to experience a true Caribbean vibe, a total party package with reggae, soca, calypso, a little jazz and blues and a taste of a real island culture and sound from the Hurricane.
Come hang out with your friends and family that evening! There will be activities, the splash pad will be open and more. Rockin' at the River concerts are free and open to the public (although donations will be accepted to help offset costs and provide funding for future events). Back up rain location will be The Eagle Theater.
